DIY Flaxseed Gel Hair & Skin Treatment

You can make a flaxseed hair & skin mask easily with a few simple kitchen items and a pack of our organic brown flaxseeds.

Flaxseed gel for hair
A hair mask is designed to stay in your hair Instead of rinsing it out like you would a conditioner. Instead treat it like a leave in conditioner until your next shampoo session.

Flaxseed gel for skin
While this gel is normally used for styling and nourishing hair, some people like to use it on their skin!
As it isn’t greasy, it can easily be applied in the morning to help hydrate the skin without making your skin look oily. Some people say it makes their skin glow!
It is also said to help tighten the skin and reduce the appearance of pores.

FLAXSEED BENEFITS FOR HAIR
The following ingredients can offer specific benefits for your hair:

  • Omega-3 fatty acids. It may be surprising that flaxseed has a fatty acid often found in fish, but it’s a different form called alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). Fish, on the other hand, is a source of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). Plant-based ALA is known for its heart health benefits. It can also reduce inflammation — a contributor to diseases throughout the body that can also affect hair growth.
  • B vitamins. Flaxseed is a reliable source of B vitamins, a group of nutrients that are known for making your hair grow stronger and healthier at a more rapid rate.
  • Vitamin E. An antioxidant that is also readily available in nuts and plant-based oils. When it comes to hair health, vitamin E reduces the effects of free radicals on your scalp, thereby promoting hair growth. Adequate vitamin E intake may also promote stronger hair follicles.

HOW TO MAKE

What you will need:

  • 1 Cup of Organic Brown Flaxseeds
  • A small pot
  • 2 cups of water
  • A bowl
  • A tea towel or cheesecloth to strain
  • A jar to store any leftovers.
  • 4-5 drops of essential oils - Optional

Making the gel:

Use your small pot to boil the 2 cups of water over high heat.

Add the flaxseeds to the boiling water and reduce heat to medium, cook the seeds for about 5-10 mins. Stir occasionally. Keep an eye on the consistency and colour. You should be looking for a light golden brown and the consistency of a stringy gel.

Once the mixture thickens, remove from heat and let cool to warm then you strain out the flaxseeds using your clean tea towel or cheesecloth. and allow the gel to cool further.

Once cool, you can add in any other ingredients like essential oils.

If you have a squeeze hair applicator bottle you can pour the gel into the bottle and use to apply to your hair.

I just use a spoon to scoop into my hand and then apply to my hair from the roots to tips.

Any excess on my hands I usually apply to my face.

Our 300g pack of flaxseeds should give you 4 or 5 treatments for short to medium length hair or about 3-4 treatments for long hair.

*Keep refrigerated for up to one week.
